LG Innotek has teamed up with Japan’s TDK to advance the development of cutting-edge vision and tactile sensing modules aimed at enhancing robotics and physical AI technologies. This strategic collaboration merges LG Innotek’s proficiency in optical and precision engineering with TDK’s state-of-the-art sensor technology.
The partnership is set to yield its first significant innovation in 2027, with the launch of a vision sensing module that incorporates an inertial sensor. This sophisticated system is designed to integrate visual, motion, direction, and sound data, which will significantly improve robots’ ability to perceive and interact with their environment. Moreover, the module is engineered to minimize image distortion that typically occurs with movement, providing more accuracy and efficiency in robotic applications.
In tandem with the vision sensing module, LG Innotek and TDK are also working on developing a tactile sensing module that mimics the functionality of human skin. This module will allow robots to detect touch and pressure, enhancing their ability to perform tasks with human-like precision through their hands, arms, and bodies. The tactile sensing module is also on track for completion in 2027.
Through this collaboration, LG Innotek aims to bolster its standing in the rapidly expanding robotics market by broadening its array of AI sensing solutions, which includes cameras, lidar, radar, and the newly developed tactile sensors.
